Don't Crash Your Bike

The sub heading of this blog post is: I'm a clumsy person. Why did you ever let me on a bike?!

As you can see, there has been a good few weeks in between this blog post and my last. That is because during that time I crashed on my bike, injured my left elbow, and found any sort of computer/camera usage to be extremely uncomfortable and fairly painful. Essentially I was useless. But now I have healed and have come back to tell you what I learned.

1) PROTECT YOUR GEAR! (Camera, your head, etc)

When I crashed my bike, as I was sliding along the gravel, I had two main thoughts that crossed my mind. "TUCK AND ROLL! KEEP YOUR HEAD IN!" and "My camera is going to break for sure." Luckily I was wearing my (now scuffed up) helmet and my camera was in a padded case - all of my precious cargo was protected. (My phone screen did end up cracking though that day. Sad.)

2) DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE AND DRINK WATER

If you are sitting around in pain telling yourself "Ow I'm in pain" then yes you are going to be hurting. Stay calm and take care of yourself. You don't want to faint. I have a history of low iron and pass out very easily - often I am not able to donate at blood drives. While at the hospital after my crash I constantly told myself that I was alright, focused on my breathing, and made sure to drink a lot of water. Sure enough, I got through it. Now everyday when I accidentally smack my still healing elbow on the door frame and want to shout into the air every swear word I know, I keep calm. When I get stressed out with school work, I breathe and drink water (or hot herbal tea) and just keep plugging along. Slow and steady wins the race.

3) I AM PRETTY AWFUL AT TELLING STORIES

I mean, did you actually read #2 up there? I'm just rambling on about some nonsense. Really though, I just didn't have much to say about the accident to anyone and it didn't make for a good story. I got bored before I even told it halfway. I'll spare you.

4) GINGER CANDIES SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS

Thats a lie. But I will never out loud admit that. My mouth is stuffed with ginger candies I can't heeeaaaaarrrrrr you!

5) HEALING TAKES TIME

Being injured and useless is hard, but you'll adjust and/or heal.
